'He is going to be one of the best' - Doctor Khumalo on Chiefs' rising star

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has explained why it's more than just the talent that impresses him when watch the club's rising starlet Mfundo Vilakazi.

The 18-year-old was the star of the show as Carling All-Stars XI defeated Stellenbosch 2-1 at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday thanks to goals from Vilakazi and teammate Ashley du Preez.

Vilakazi scored the opening goal of the match when his free-kick took an awkward bounce to forcer Stellies keeper Sage Stephens into mishandling the ball.

Speaking to SABC Sport after the match, Khumalo explained why it was more than Vilakazi's performance that was impressive.

"It takes a young boy with a brave heart to take responsibility and this is what he did," Khumalo said.

"If this boy continues like this, he's going to be one of the best players.

"Yes, of course, it's an error by the goalkeeper, but the kicker of the ball [says] 'I'm responsible, I'm taking it.

"It shows, the coach gave the boys confidence and there could've been another player who's taken that free-kick, even Du Preez would've taken it.

"But he (Vilakazi) opted to take it, that shows the strength and confidence of the youngster."
