Du Preez, Dolly Chiefs performances addressed

Head coach Cavin Johnson has provided his assessment of the performances of duo Ashley Du Preez and Keagan Dolly who returned to action as Chiefs were held by Royal AM.

Amakhosi missed a chance to climb up the DStv Premiership table after they were forced to settle for a goalless draw against a resilient Royal AM outfit on Sunday afternoon at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Glamour Boys enjoyed 54% of ball possession and saw four of their 13 shots at goal only prevented by Thwihli Thwahla keeper Hugo Nyame, who went on to be awarded the Man of the Match.

The match also saw the return of striker Du Preez and club captain Dolly, who had been sidelined by serious injuries prior to the AFCON break.

Du Preez in particular has come under fire from sections of supporters after failing to convert several golden chances, meanwhile Dolly was brought in a late substitute.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Johnson gave his assessment of the duo.

"Ja look, Ash really put in a good shift and I expect him to score all the goals because he is a goalscorer and if he did score, he is the hero today but unfortunately he didn't score," Johnson said.

"He's back, he looks good.

"Keagan [Dolly] has just come back, he is working and you see he only got a few. He got abut 30 minutes. Hopefully they will pack for 90 [minutes] very soon. I know Ashley went a lot longer than we expected him to.

The draw means Chiefs failed to capitalise on a slip by rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who also played to a goalless draw at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday night.

The Soweto giants now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup where they take on Motsepe Foundation side Milford on Sunday, 25 February.
