PSL heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs could face the humiliation of another FIFA imposed penalty following the latest events that have emerged around the transfer of their former defender Teenage Hadebe.
Bulawayo-based weekly newspaper – The Sunday News – reported over the weekend that FIFA have issued a ruling ordering Chiefs to pay Zimbabwean club Chicken Inn R360 000 or risk another transfer ban.
This relates to what Chicken Inn were due to get when Hadebe moved from Chiefs to Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor in July 2019.
The matter in question is based on a sell-clause that was inserted when Chiefs acquired Hadebe from Chicken Inn in 2017.
Following the transfer, the Bulawayo club didn't get a share of their transfer fee forcing them to approach FIFA for a solution and a ruling was issued on November 8, 2022, and signed by the football tribunal chief legal and compliance officer Emilio Garcia Silvero.
"The claim of the Claimant, Chicken Inn FC, is partially accepted.
"The Respondent, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, has to pay to the Claimant, the following amount(s): USD 13,654.11 as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum as from 7 July 2021 until the date of effective payment; USD 7,724.64 as outstanding remuneration plus 5% interest per annum as from 16 January 2022 until the date of effective payment…
"Full payment (including all applicable interest) shall be made to the bank account indicated in the enclosed Bank Account Registration Form," reads the tribunal's judgment, as per The Sunday News.
The ruling states that Chiefs run the risk of a transfer ban until the due amount is paid.
"The respondent shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid.
"The maximum duration of the ban shall be of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods."
"The present matter shall be submitted, upon request, to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in the event that full payment (including all applicable interest) is still not made by the end of the three entire and consecutive registration periods.
"The consequences shall only be enforced at the request of the claimant in accordance with article. 24 paragraph. 7 and 8 and article. 25 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.
"The final costs of the proceedings in the amount of USD 5,000 are to be paid by the respondent to FIFA.
"FIFA will reimburse to the claimant (Chicken Inn) the advance of costs paid at the start of the present proceedings," reads the ruling in parts published by the newspaper.
Hadebe is now with Major League Soccer club Houston Dynamo who he joined in July 2021 as a designated player.
Being a designated player, Hadebe is amongst the top earners at the club and according to the MLS Players Association earns USD1,179 million (approx. R20,22 million) per year.
Two years ago, Chiefs served another transfer ban over the transfer of Malagasy midfielder Andriamirado Aro Hasina Andrianamimanana.
