Hat doffed for Dortley, 'next Lucas Radebe'

A Kaizer Chiefs legend has named centre-back Rushwin Dortley, who has missed the last four games owing to injury, as the team's standout player this season.

Dortley has played 21 matches across all competitions for Chiefs.

Zebulon 'Sputla' Nhlapo, who turned out for an Amakhosi outfit that also featured the iconic duo of Ace Ntsoelengoe and Teenage Dladla in the '80s, has been left impressed.

Furthermore, he argues the fact the 22-year-old is the only player from the side consistently selected for Bafana Bafana proves he is superior to his teammates.

He envisions the former Cape Town Spurs man as the next Kaizer Chiefs icon, similar to Lucas 'Rhoo' Radebe.

"For me, our best player this season is Rushwin Dortley. If it weren't for him, then it would be Wandile Duba," reveals Nhlapo.

"Dortley never under-performs; he is always delivering. When the team is under pressure, he steps up to the plate. He is actively involved in trying to help his teammates. Unlike some players, he doesn't only play well when the team is winning.

"Even in defeat, he demonstrates a fighting spirit. Dortley is consistently there for the team during difficult times. He respects the Kaizer Chiefs jersey and is prepared to give everything for the badge. He plays for Kaizer Chiefs, not for himself.

"He is also the only player who consistently represents Chiefs in the national team.

"This kid is on the same level as Sylvester 'City' Kole and Lucas Radebe, which is why Hugo Broos values him so highly. He is exceptionally talented and every coach's dream.

"I see a future captain of Kaizer Chiefs in him. I see the next Lucas Radebe. Like Radebe, he possesses strong leadership qualities."
