The start of the month of October has left Itumeleng Khune just a year shy of completing a year since he played his last 90 minutes at Kaizer Chiefs.
Khune was in goals as captain against Orlando Pirates in November last year in what could possibly become the last match he started in his playing career.

After that Soweto Derby, he was suspended for transgressing the club's rules in a case relating to alcohol.
He would only then get to be given a token appearance on the day he was honoured for 25 years' service at the club in May.
The former Bafana Bafana international was handed the last quarter-hour against Polokwane City in the club's last league home match last season.
On that bright May afternoon at FNB Stadium, the 37-year-old reiterated his desire to continue playing despite the club having already confirmed that he was on his final playing contract at Naturena last season.
Further evidence of the Soweto giants' position on Khune came when Fiacre Ntwari was bought from TS Galaxy with the Rwandan international having since taken over as first-choice keeper.
For all the talks that have been ongoing between Khune and Chiefs, there has been no official confirmation on what position he will take at the club if he is continue at Amakhosi.
The hierarchy have shown their desire to have their long-serving employee staying on in a non-playing role, but it appears no common ground has been reached.
There have been suggestions that considering his popularity, Khune will be parachuted into the marketing department.
However, the months of July, August and September have all gone by without any official word despite suggestions of talks and that Khune remains a part of the club.

The former Bafana Bafana number one has only ever played for Chiefs, so if he is to pursue playing, it will be at another club, which will cancel him out as a one-club man standing.
On the subject of playing, besides having last played 90 minutes almost a year ago, the veteran keeper has also only featured in 20 games in the last three years.
