Itumeleng Khune's next call on his career will be a subject of interest that will do little to dilute the footprint that he has left on the international stage.
Khune has only ever played for Kaizer Chiefs through his professional career but has left an impression on the international scene wearing the Bafana Bafana jersey.

In November, it will be six years since he earned the last of his 91 caps but that hasn't discounted his appeal.
From the very first man – Gilbert Mushangazhike – who found a way past him that on his Bafana debut there is nothing but respect for Khune just like there is from Energy Murambadoro, who guarded the opposite poles on that even.
Beyond Zimbabwe, Khune went on to face Roque Santa Cruz in earning his second cap against Paraguay.

Casillas made known his admiration for Khune's distribution of the ball with his feet.
He also faced Brazil who featured Robinho, Luis Fabiano, Felipe Melo, and Kaka.

Then came games against Thailand, North Korea, Jamaica, Bulgaria, Denmark, and Colombia before the 2010 World Cup where Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani were a menace.
Ghana, USA, Egypt, Burkina Faso, and Senegal were opponents along the way before Neymar's Brazil in 2012.
Then was the first AFCON finals in which he played in 2013 before a host of friendlies which included Spain.

After over a year out of the national team, Khune came back and faced Sadio Mane at Moses Mabhida against Senegal before games against Costa Rica and Honduras.
Hugo Broos was twice an opponent in 2016 while with Cameroon before further meetings against Mane.
In his last appearance for Bafana which was against Nigeria, Khune had to stop shots from Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, and Samuel Chukwueze.
