The unusual scene of Kaizer Chiefs minus Itumeleng Khune is gaining ground after the club's decision not to offer the veteran keeper another playing contract.
Khune has only ever played for Chiefs since his promotion to the first team back in 2004 when he was a back-up behind Rowen Fernandez, and Aubrey Mathibe before the arrival of Emille Baron and Ryan Wuest.

It took three years for Khune to ultimately make his debut in August 2007, playing ahead of Baron and Austrian keeper Markus Bocskor.
Since then, it was all smooth as he grew to become a legend at the club going on to become the most capped (91) Bafana Bafana goalkeeper ever.
However, events from recent years have given a clear indication of a career going south with Chiefs confirming last year that he was on to his last playing contract with the one-year deal that he was handed.
Since then, the 37-year-old was honoured for long service on the day of his last appearance on May 18.
Chiefs have stuck to their word about no other playing contract while noting that the door is open for a non-playing role in whatever path he prefers to pursue.
On the contrary, the veteran keeper has insisted on his desire to continue playing.
This is the part that has left Khune and the club having different opinions.

Only time will tell if the two will reach common ground.
Khune has chosen to direct his comments about his situation to Chiefs who have indicated that he remains important to the club.
