Msimango - 'We are working hard to bring back the glory days'

Newly-signed defender Given Msimango has urged the club's supporters to be patient with the team as Kaizer Chiefs look to end an eight-year trophy drought.

The 26-year-old centre back was unveiled as one of six new arrivals at the Kaizer Chiefs Village as part of the club's bid to bolster the squad on the back of an underwhelming campaign.

The Sowetan club has come under heavy criticism from supporters over a failure to clinch silverware in what has now become eight consecutive years.

"To the Amakhosi faithful, I'd like to thank you for your continued support, love you've shown for the club, the love you've shown for the players on and off the field," Msimango said on the club's YouTube channel.

"I urge you to continue showing your support to the guys.

"What I can say to you or the message I can provide you with is that his season we are going to provide you with wonderful moments.

"Unforgettable moments. We are working hard here at camp to bring back the glory days for the club.

"All we ask of you is to be patient, continue supporting the club and showing your love like you've always done."

The last time Chiefs lifted a trophy was when Stuart Baxter led them to a Cup double in the 2014/2015 season.

Ernest Middendorp came close, losing the league title on the last day of the season in 2020. Gavin Hunt also nearly ended the drought, steering his side to the final of the CAF Champions League in 2021.

Arthur Zwane went as far as the semi-final of both the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 last season.

Msimango and Co begin their quest for silverware with a DStv Premiership clash against Chippa United on Sunday, 6 August at FNB Stadium.
