My Dream Team - George Lebese

In the latest edition of My Dream Team, former Kaizer Chiefs star and Mamelodi Sundowns player George Lebese chooses the best 10 players he featured alongside in his successful football career.

What formation?

"4-4-2. I played with a lot of attacking players."

Goalkeeper…

"Itumeleng Khune. It's self-explanatory. We all know what the man did and continues to do to serve South African football. He is one of the best products South Africa has groomed from its roots. It's very rare for a goalkeeper to become a player of the season."

Defenders…

"Centre-Back will be Mulomowandau Mathoho. He's got height, attacking, ability, and understands the game. 1 v 1 He is very strong, but as you know form is formed, but when you know what a person can do…Mathoho is very strong. And brave enough to play.

"On the left, it's Teffo Mashamaite, a very good defender, very committed, conceding a goal annoys him. He puts the body on the line, so he is very strong.

"On the right it's Kgotso Moleko. He is also strong but can attack. I would have loved to put him as a right-wing-back, but I can't. So, he gives you both on the right. This guy can kick you like nobody's business. Once he realises you are getting the better of him, he will deal with you illegally. It's either you or the ball that gets left behind."

Midfield…

"Mandla Masango will be on the right. He is very tricky; he can create goals and he can score them as well. He is one of the bravest players I've ever played with. He is very brave that guy. There was a point where he grabbed the free kicks from senior players [laughs], and we were young then. Do you know how hard it is to tell a senior player that is in the national team that he is not taking a free kick? But Mandla used to do that easily. What else could they've done? The guy was on form. So you couldn't argue with him so much when you are on form they live everything to you.

"As for the three in the middle, the first one will be George Maluleka. Very creative and can make a pass, his game intelligence is on another level.

"But in the centre, I'm putting Willard Katsande. We've got many artists in this team so someone must be a 'slave'. He will break attacks, tackle and give us the ball. He is one player that understood that role very well. He didn't try to do the step-overs and so he understood his role very well.

"On the far wing, I will put myself. I bring goals, I'm good 1 v 1, can also play as a 10. When I played my first game for Chiefs [In Mpumalanga Premier's International Cup 2008 in Witbank] and I had to do what I could to win the crowd [Showboating]. For me to be recognised I had to do that. Remember we had just passed the era of Jabu Pule and Junior Khanye and the fans were still excited about that. So that's why I decided to dribble that day. Just to be recognised.

"Andile Jali will be my last one. Very good when the situation demands a leader who can bring us up when the chips are down. Tactically very good, very disciplined and he commands. He is one guy who will look you in the eye and say 'Ek se Baba, Asambe.' That's why at some point he was a captain."

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - SEPTEMBER 20: George Malu

Strikers…

"The first one is Lehlohonolo Majoro. 'Major' knows very well where the goalposts are. He is not a tricky striker that dribbles past defenders but he does that with his movements. Whenever he gets a chance, he buries it. Out of 5, he will score 3.

"I will partner him with Knowledge Musona. From my experience with him, he was very intelligent. In his head he does things before they even happen, he calculates. And he scores, he is a great finisher."

Substitutes…

"My goalkeeper will be Denis Onyango. I trust Onyango he is a very good goalkeeper, and he is brave enough to start the ball from the back.

"Tsepo Masilela will be the defender. If you want to play with a wing-back or resort to four at the back the man is there. He can also play in the midfield.

"Midfielder will be Lebohang Maboe. He is currently not playing because Sundowns is Sundowns they move on with times and not a question of talent. So, someone has to sit on the bench or at home, and unfortunately for him, he has also suffered a lot of injuries. And Sundowns doesn't forgive, they don't have patience, and they sign another new player while you are still busy healing from an injury. By the time you recover that new player has already cemented his place in the starting line-up. So how do you make a comeback?

"My striker on the bench is Percy Tau. He is humble enough he is willing to accept his mistakes."

Coach…

"[laughs] Manqoba Mnqithi. He is a serial winner. What people don't know is he criticizes a lot when he knows you can deliver. He is a very good coach."
