Nabi admits to frustrations at similar technical team issues to Chiefs

Tunisian Belgian coach Muhammad Nasreddine Nabi has moved into his latest job at Moroccan champions AS FAR without being granted all his demands just like what happened in events that led to his proposed move to Kaizer Chiefs collapsing.

Nabi was linked with Chiefs prior to the confirmation of Molefi Ntseki as the man to take over from Arthur Zwane in the position of head coach.

Negotiations with Amakhosi went on for several weeks with Nabi insisting on his own technical team that would have included Cedric Kaze as assistant, conditioning coach Helmy Gueldich, and analyst Khalil Ben Youssef.

However, it ultimately didn't work out leaving Nabi frustrated in Tunisia when KickOff made contact in a brief exchange.

"This is normal because all the clubs always have possibilities about which coach to appoint.

"This is football and reality is that at times you negotiate with a club and they made their own final decision.

"It is normal but maybe it took too much time," said Nabi.

Immediately afterwards it emerged that the 57-year-old had cast his focus to the North African market and had contacted Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

Wydad had Sven Vandenbroeck in charge at the time but failure to win the domestic league, the CAF Champions, and the Throne Cup left the Belgian on his way out which has since happened.

Nabi – who won the double treble with Young Africans over the last two years in Tanzania while reaching the final of the CAF Confederation – couldn't ultimately join Wydad after negotiations broke down.

However, his ability to speak both French and Arabic meant he remained suitable to Morocco, and it has been no surprise that he has now been appointed as the new man in charge at AS FAR Rabat.

Instead of taking over at AS FAR with all his support staff, Nabi has only been allowed one member of his choice.

According to insiders, AS FAR only made one spot (assistant coach) available for him to bring a backroom staffer of his choice and preference was Kaze but that option couldn't happen.

"They only gave him only the assistant coach position to fill with someone of his choice.

"So, the fitness coach went in as assistant coach since that was the only spot availed to him," says a source.

AS FAR will play in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.
