Nabi in charm call at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has given an update report into what is unfolding in his first season at the club.

Chiefs have played 20 games since Nabi took over with nine wins, seven defeats, and four draws, and have a Nedbank Cup fixture next up on Saturday at FNB Stadium (18:00).

The cup game is a focal point considering the club's decade-long drought.

"We understand the expectations of the fans, which we did even before we got here, because this is a very big club," says Nabi.

"Everyone wants to win, and they don't want to hear about the process or project but rather just results.

"They have been hearing about projects and construction, but from myself and the board, we don't need to react with emotions.

"Without a project, you don't guarantee the success.

"The project and process don't mean you don't play to get a result.

"We believe that the players are starting to get confident in themselves in the message that is conveyed by the technical staff," the Tunisian-Belgian added.

"In terms of results, we believe that we should or could have done better.

"We believe that there were points we dropped that were in our hands.

"There were some games that were in our control and feel we could have done better but didn't end up with the three points.

"In terms of points, we should have had more than we have right now.

"The project is a lot of things because you need to build a culture into the team, a tactical culture on the everyday behaviour.

"Going forward, we feel we are in the right space with the right ingredients to do something good," he adds.
