Nabi’s concerns at Chiefs being addressed

Nasreddine Nabi has spent a month in charge at Kaizer Chiefs, affording him an opportunity to make a comprehensive assessment of the squad that he has adopted.

Nabi has been brought in to lead the revival mission at Chiefs as the club gets into their 10th season since they last won silverware.

The damage that has eroded Amakhosi to where they are now is evident and needs no patching up but a proper plan which will need support and understanding from the club's management and fans.

Fortunate for the Tunisian-Belgian gaffer is that he still has another month before the season, with the league only getting underway on September 14 for Chiefs.

The Soweto giants have so far brought in attacking midfielder Gaston Sirino, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, left-back Bongani Sam and left-footed defender Rushwin Dortley.

Word reaching this website is that Nabi still has concerns about his attack, specifically the number nine and the central defence positions.

Matters relating to the number nine position is the reason why Fiston Kalala Mayele's name has been mentioned.

Mayele excelled under Nabi during their time at Young Africans, but a heavy transfer fee will have to be paid to bring him to Naturena.

This is where the challenge is for Chiefs with regards to the Congolese striker, who has scored 19 goals in his first season in Egypt after scoring 31 last season at Yanga.

The other area of concern for Nabi is at centre-back, where he feels he needs a trusted commander.

This is why Ismael Toure and Inacio Miguel have been discussed.

Toure is at Stellenbosch FC, while Miguel plays for Petro Luanda in Angola.

"The coach has raised his concerns, especially up front, and the hope is that he doesn't end up in a fix because he knows he needs goals.

"He has other reservations in other areas, but that will be taken care of with time.

"While seeking to sort out a lot of issues relating to the quality of the squad that he has found at the club, he knows that he needs his team to be competitive," says a contact.

The issue of the foreign quota will be of interest considering what other signings Chiefs get to make with Ntwari (Rwanda), Thatayaone Ditlhokwe (Botswana), Edmilson Dove (Mozambique), Edson Castillo (Venezuela) and Christian Saile Basomboli (DR Congo) on their books for now.
