Warning for Nabi at Chiefs

Nasreddine Nabi has been warned that his rebuilding process at Kaizer Chiefs should only last season, with a huge step up expected next term.

There has been a commanding voice from Chiefs’ trophy winning squads of yesteryear adding his voice to what is happening at the club under Nabi.

Chiefs have put blinkers to their issues in the league this season by reaching the Nedbank Cup final, which will be historic for Nabi if they overcome Orlando Pirates on 10 May.

As they navigate their first season under Nabi, former Chiefs defender Derrick Spencer has come out frank about the process of building that the Tunisian has been preaching.

“It is not easy coming in as a coach and getting so many new players,” notes Spencer.

“The team hasn’t been doing well so I think this season I will give it to him to build with new players.

“He is new in the team but next season we need to start grinding for results and showing more, trying to compete for the league.

“Time for building is this season only.

“Next season, we should be competing,” says Spencer who spent five years at Chiefs during which he won all domestic trophies which include the league, Nedbank Cup, Carling Cup, and MTN8.

“He just got to the team, and it is his first time in South Africa, so I think there has been a language barrier which hasn’t made it easier.

“There has been pressure from the previous years, but we are slowly getting there, and we are in the final now, which is good.

“Hopefully next season, it is going to be a different Chiefs and a different season.

“I think it is big for the team to be in the final with all the negativity that has been happening around the team.

“Finding ourselves in the final shows that there is something happening.”
