Ntseki issues verdict on new striker Gonzalez's debut

Head coach Molefi Ntseki gave his verdict on the long-awaited debut of striker Jasond Gonzalez as Kaizer Chiefs were held to a dramatic draw at home by Mamelodi Sundowns in an MTN8 semi-final clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Despite dominating the match, a last-minute equaliser by defender Khuliso Mudau salvaged a draw for Sundowns after Edson Castillo put Chiefs ahead.

The match was also the first competitive appearance of new South American striker Gonzalez who was signed by Chiefs in August and introduced as a half-time substitute.

"As for Gonzalez, it's the same thing with Edson [Castillo], we are still working very hard for him to understand the league, to understand the opponents and also to understand our tactical approach," Ntseki said post-match.

"It becomes very difficult when you bring in a player and you never had any pre-season with that player and now he is asked to hit the ground running and in hitting the ground running [but] there's no ground.

"So, what is important is for us to create that ground and also make him understand his qualities and those of his teammates."

Chiefs will only return to competitive action on 16 September with a DStv Premiership clash against Royal AM.
