Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo has questioned the club's choice of captaincy, stating that it lacks the necessary quality.
The once-mighty Amakhosi, who are now struggling as a mid-table team, are currently captained by Yusuf Maart.
According to the former Bafana Bafana star, Maart still needs to prove himself in the game.

Over the weekend, Chiefs suffered a 0-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in a match where they hardly managed a shot on target.
"There was no way Chiefs could beat Sundowns with that defense," Mayo tells KickOff.
"Nobody is commanding in that defense; no one is directing things at the back. Between Rushwin Dortley and Ignacio Miguel, one of them should be leading that defense. They need to communicate with each other, saying, 'Go on and press, and I'll cover!' We lack a leader at the back."
Mayo emphasized that the defense is not protecting their goalkeeper.
"The goalkeeper is not at fault here because, to get to the goalkeeper, the ball first has to pass through the defense," he explained.
"Sometimes coaches choose players with no leadership qualities to lead the team, just because that particular player is disciplined. Being vocal is essential when playing in that position."
Regarding the captaincy, Mayo labeled Yusuf Maart as the "weakest link."
"Every goal we concede seems to come from his side. I don't see him as a team leader. I would rather give the captain's armband to Bruce Bvuma, who is the last line of defense, much like they did with Itumeleng Khune."
"To be honest, the current Kaizer Chiefs squad lacks players with leadership qualities. It's unusual for Chiefs to have a captain who isn't a regular player for his national team. This alone says a lot about our team."

Mayo believes that if a Chiefs player is not a regular on his country's national team, he should not be given the captaincy.
"Moreover, when you look at our forwards, it quickly becomes evident that we simply don't have a cohesive team at Kaizer Chiefs. We need to reinforce the squad by signing strikers who can score consistently. We also need midfielders who are dedicated to the Kaizer Chiefs badge and a solid defense. We do have a capable goalkeeper, but he is exposed by our defense. A goalkeeper can only save us to a certain extent, while our forwards are not scoring."
Disappointingly, Chiefs currently sit in eighth position on the log table, having managed only seven wins in 19 matches.
