In this edition of Locker Room Secrets, KickOff catches up with former Kaizer Chiefs, Ajax Cape Town and Moroka Swallows striker Shaun Permall.
Permall shares with our readers what his former teammates used to get up to once the television cameras were switched off.
Who was always late?
"At Kaizer Chiefs, it was Thabo Mooki, and at Ajax Cape Town, it was always Gareth Ormshaw.
"I don't think there were any proper reasons behind their actions. Thabo had the fast cars, so he always wanted to rest [laughs].
"We were always training in the morning, so I don't think it had to do with drinking."
Any interesting rituals before playing?
"Not that I know of, not really. Everybody was the same."
Who was the jokester?
"At Swallows, it was [Samuel] 'See' Ngobeni, and at Chiefs, it was [Stanton] 'Stiga' Fredericks."
Which club had a muti change room?
"It was there at Swallows. The club's bus driver also doubled up as a muti man there. He was also our kit manager.
"The kit was always soaking wet and they would put a lot of stuff on it. I don't think it helped us win, although we won trophies. At Chiefs also [there was muti], but at Swallows, it was worse."
Who was the singer?
"At Chiefs, it was Ronwen Fernandez. He was a white ni**a [laughs]. But not to leave out Brian Bafana Baloyi, he also loved singing."
Who was the best- and worst-dressed?
"It [the best-dressed] was always between 'Stiga' and Brian, and also Doctor Khumalo. But at training, it was always between Brian and 'Mdokies'.
"As for the worst-dressed, we never really had somebody who stood out. Everybody was on the same level."
Who never showered?
"Jeremy Jansen at Ajax Cape Town. He probably didn't want to wash his luck off or something, I don't know."
Rate the coach's team talk
"I can't even single them out, all the coaches I had gave the best team talk for me."
