Last chance saloon for Chiefs striker?

Having already lost a starting position to Wandile Duba, a Kaizer Chiefs star has an important five months ahead to turn around the tide.

Chiefs have scored an impressive 17 goals in the Betway Premiership this season - ranking among the highest in terms of finding the net.

Only early pacesetters Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates (both at 22) have scored more.

Worryingly for Ranga Chivaviro, though, only three of those strikes came off his boot despite being the side's main number nine.

Although the big marksman has featured in all but one of the Soweto giants' matches so far in 2024/25, he has not started a game since October 2024.

That starting role up front has been designated first to Ashley Du Preez, and more recently, Duba.

This, combined with the team's pursuit of a striker, and the resultant conclusion leaves questions to be asked on Chivaviro's future at Naturena.

Granted, Chiefs have the option to extend his deal, but the former Marumo Gallants man's time at the club so far throws that possibility into major doubt.

Chivaviro joined from Gallants at the start of the last season on a two-year contract with the option to extend.

He has scored eight goals in 38 appearances for - a decent return, but far lower than what was expected.

The remaining five months will be crucial in determining where he ends up with the club's frontline set to be bolstered.

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys have completed the signing of DR Congo winger Makabi Lilepo, who also doubles up as a striker, while Tashreeq Morris is also coming in.
