Fadlu backs Nabi-linked Chiefs to end Downs dominance

Former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids has backed Kaizer Chiefs to regain dominance of South African football if they can finally get their coaching appointment right, following links with Nasreddine Nabi, among other coaches.

Mamelodi Sundowns have dominated South African football, having just won the league for a seventh season running.

Masandawana finished 23 points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates, while Chiefs had their worst-ever season in the PSL history, after finishing 10th.

However, Davids believes if Amakhosi can finally get the right coaching appointment and get him to hit the ground running, they could reclaim their place as a dominant force in Mzansi.

"Chiefs actually have the advantage in South Africa in terms of their massive support, but at the moment it is working against them because the fans are impatient and not allowing coaches to work and build," Davids told KickOff.com in an exclusive interview.

"Because the expectation is to win the league, to win every match. But you know, a club like Kaizer Chiefs, if they get it right and start picking up results and get momentum, they are a huge force in South African football.

"I don't think it will take long for Kaizer Chiefs if they build from the ground up and get things right. You will see Kaizer Chiefs again dominating South African football, because of the huge pull of the brand and the huge pull of just the institution that they do possess," Davids added.

This publication reported last week that Amakhosi are in talks with Nabi regarding taking over their head coach position for 2024/25.

Davids is currently serving as assistant to Josef Zinnbauer at Raja Casablanca, and they top the Botola Pro by one point and are unbeaten ahead of second-placed Nabi's AS FAR, with one match to go.

The two former Pirates coaches have also led Raja to the semi-finals of the Moroccan Throne Cup.
