'Current squad nowhere near Chiefs standard'

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Roger De Sa has shared his thoughts on the current Kaizer Chiefs squad after a mild start to the season that has seen them win three, draw two and lose two matches so far.

The ex-Bafana Bafana, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Moroka Swallows goalkeeper believes that Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is being let down by his players.

The Amakhosi faithful were left disappointed on Saturday after their beloved club squandered a 2-0 lead, resulting in a 2-2 draw against Royal AM at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

"What happened to Chiefs on Saturday can happen in football," De Sa notes, speaking to KickOff.com.

"Let's be honest, the coach inherited these players, so I think he will need a bit of time to bring in one or two new players. Once he adds new talent, I believe things will be different.

"I think the current composition of the Chiefs squad is strong, but during the next transfer window, I expect there may be a few new players joining the team. I don't think this squad is as strong as a Kaizer Chiefs squad should be. Not yet near their standard.

"There are two or three positions where improvements could be vital and could significantly change the team's performance. I'm sure the coach is aware of that and will look to bring in one or two new players," he details.

De Says says what happened on Saturday against Thwihli Thwahla is not out of the ordinary in the unpredictable game that is football.

"We should also give credit to the opposition, they fought back and never gave up. I thought Royal AM's first goal was fantastic, it was an unbelievable shot.

"When you are 2-0 up, scoring the third goal becomes crucial. If Kaizer Chiefs had scored that third goal, it would have been game over. But since Royal AM got that incredible goal instead, it changed the dynamics of the match."

The Glamour Boys are next in action on Saturday away to Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
