Chiefs keeper caught up in tight situation

Fiacre Ntwari's lack of minutes at Kaizer Chiefs could come at a cost with questions to be asked about his international career.

Ntwari is now approaching four months since he last got minutes at Chiefs, where he started the season as first choice before being relegated to the bench and the stands.

The 25-year-old played the last of his seven games on November 2, 2024, and by then had conceded 11 and kept just a single clean sheet.

If he doesn't play again over the next fortnight, then the Rwandan international will have clocked four months without playing with Bruce Bvuma having since negotiated his way to the front.

The month of March will come with international football as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resume.

Rwanda is in the same qualifying group (Group C) with Bafana Bafana and have games against Nigeria and Lesotho to play in March.

They overcame Bafana 2-0 in the second group qualifier and currently lead the group standings after four games.

Further complications for Ntwari will arise from that Torsten Spittler has since exited his job as Rwanda's national team coach after the expiry of his contract at the end of November.

Spittler's tenure came with Ntwari as first choice but having now struggled for game time in recent months at Chiefs, it is no guarantee that he will continue as the preferred option between the posts.

The Rwanda FA is yet to name Spittler's successor.
