Technical team shake up at Chiefs looming?

The order of events at Kaizer Chiefs in the new season could have the club's technical team adjusted with several options being considered.

Chiefs spent the past season with Arthur Zwane in charge, but he delivered nothing on the trophy front in his first full season in charge with AmaKhosi finishing fifth and losing the most games in a single season through their PSL history.

AmaKhosi lost 12 out of 30 league games which is the highest number of defeats in a single season and uncharacteristic of the club from Naturena they also ended with a negative goal difference, the second time that this has ever happened in their PSL history.

From the naked eye, this kind of run wasn't encouraging with concerns being raised about how lightweight the club's technical team is.

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane.

For all the support that Zwane gets at the club having been with the club since the year 2000, there are critical shortcomings in his management and tactical acumen demanded from a modern-day head coach.

The idea being considered revolves around strengthening the manpower around him which at worst could have him being demoted back to an assistant coach role.

Zwane is apparently not keen in working with new faces that he is not familiar with within his technical team as considerations are made about bringing 'another technical head from the outside'.

The 49-year-old has worked as an assistant to several coaches through the last dozen years and knows about the 'politics' and all else in that environment.

Zwane first worked under Vladmir Vermezovic then sat behind Stuart Baxter so has first-hand experience of all happens behind the scenes.

The amount of work needed to get Chiefs back to competing cannot be carried out with only Zwane at the helm and this is what has pushed the club into making considerations for other options though nothing tangible has been reached for now.

As is always the case, agents have flooded the club's inbox with CVs of their clients some of which make sense considering the situation, but the club is seeking to stay calm and be sober minded in the decision that they take next.

The voices from management are not consistent and this is why options are being explored in consultation with Zwane, who still has another two years remaining on the deal he signed when taking over the beginning of last season.

Further developments in this regard are expected this week as the bite of the unusual eight-year trophy drought continues to be felt.

Zwane has been working with Dillon Sheppard as his assistant.
