Teko calls out 'bad habits' at Chiefs

Former Orlando Pirates maestro and current football analyst Teko Modise has called out some of the 'bad habits' that have become noticeable to the trained eye at Kaizer Chiefs early on this season.

Chiefs suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Polokwane City at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, in what was their eighth match of 2024/25.

Notably, the Nasreddine Nabi-led side is yet to keep a single clean sheet.

Oswin Appollis opened the scoring in the first half, before Mokibelo Ramabu put the nail in Amakhosi's coffin, with just two minutes left of normal time against the run of play.

Reviewing the match on SuperSport TV's ExtraTime, Modise was particularly unimpressed with the manner in which the Soweto giants conceded their second goal.

"I've got a question. You look at that goal, it went in, in the 88th minute. Speaking of bad habits - where is everyone else? When we are losing a game, why does a defence all of a sudden want to be a striker? Those are bad habits.

"In a league, there is goal difference.

"We also had this when I was still playing, which I never understood. When you are chasing the game, you still have to play with a structure. Irrespective of the result.

"Chiefs is a team that is trying to build and go back to winning ways. For that, you must have discipline and good habits. That's the one thing they don't have.

"[Yusuf] Maart lost the ball so many times in the game, and he still had cover. Why all of a sudden [there is no cover when he loses the ball late in the match]? Where is everybody? Where is the left-back? Where is the centre-back? Why has [Inacio] Miguel become a striker?

"So, those are the problems that they encountered in the game and if that's the Kaizer Chiefs that will continue playing with no discipline, where everyone feels they can do whatever they want, then I feel sorry for them," said Modise.

Chiefs will have a chance to make amends when they take on TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Monday.
