SHOCKING: Sirino's sending-off record in the PSL

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gaston Sirino could have inherited a Bad Boy image that is unwarranted after his red card against SuperSport United on Tuesday.

Sirino received two yellow cards within nine minutes in the second stanza against SuperSport in the Betway Premiership, with his second coming with Chiefs already trailing 3-1, as they eventually lost 4-1.

The Uruguayan's red card came as a big blow, as he is set to miss the big game against his former club Mamelodi Sundowns next weekend.

The 33-year-old's return from injury came as a boost to Amakhosi, whose depth was also boosted by the signings of Thabo Cele, Makabi Lilepo, and Tashreeq Morris.

Sirino's sending-off somewhat came as no surprise, as he has been labelled a player unable to control his emotions and therefore susceptible to getting bookings and ultimately red cards.

However, the ill-discipline label on the Uruguayan appears unwarranted, given that his red card against SuperSport was only his second in a league fixture in the PSL (the last in March 2019) and his first in South Africa in six years.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has also been sent off twice before in cup games in his nearly eight years in the Yellow colours, in his first campaign in the 2017/18.

This was in a 3-1 defeat to Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals and then in a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout (Telkom Knockout) semi-finals.

2018/19 was particularly problematic for Sirino in so far as cautions are concerned, where he got booked nine times in all competitions, his highest number in all his campaigns in a single season.

However, since then, the diminutive attacker has been scarce in referees' books and will actually be suspended for the first time since that campaign six years ago.
