Zwane issues verdict on Du Preez' performance

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane insists he was never concerned about the form of striker Ashley Du Preez, whose goal helped seal a first win of the year for Amakhosi.

Chiefs got collected their first win of the year with a 2-0 victory over Royal AM courtesy of goals from Sfiso Hlanti and Ashley Du Preez as the sides clashed at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

The win also brought an end to a run of three consecutive defeats for Amakhosi after falling to Sekhukhune United, AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns.

For striker, Du Preez, the win brings an end to a goal-drought that stretches as far back as October.

The 25-year-old has endured a frustrating start to life at Naturena since his arrival from Stellenbosch at the start of the season, returning just three goals and two assists in his 18 appearances but Zwane is hoping the striker's latest goal will be a turn-around.

"Look I was not worried about Ash [Ashely Du Preez], he's a team player. Sometimes he doesin't score but he creates, and he does well when it comes to defending, he's a team player like I said," Zwane said post-match.

"It was just a matter of time before he scores a goal and I'm happy for him. I hope this one will boost his confidence going forward to score more goals."

Chiefs will hope to keep the momentum going when they take on TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
