A blip on the road for Peprah in India

Former Orlando Pirates star Kwame Peprah recently found himself in trouble in India, but his Kerala Blasters manager has assured fans that the striker has learned his lesson following a post-match discussion. Here's a closer look!

The story

In August 2021, the Buccaneers paid a modest fee of €157,000 (R3 million) to lure Peprah away from King Faisal, according to Transfermarkt.

However, the move did not go as planned for the player, as he quickly became the subject of intense criticism from sections of the Pirates' supporters.

After struggling to find form in Orlando, Peprah was sent out on loan to Maritzburg United, where his struggles became even more apparent. He managed just one goal in 14 games for the Durban outfit.

Peprah eventually departed from Pirates in 2023 after registering a disappointing tally of nine goals in 44 matches.

In August of the same year, he completed a move to Indian top-flight side Kerala Blasters, where he has already scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 26 games.

Despite being a key figure in the team, the Ghanaian forward recently found himself under scrutiny after receiving a red card during a league game against Mumbai City.

Peprah was booked in the 7th minute for a foul, but later received a second yellow card for removing his shirt while celebrating an equalising goal to make the score 2-2.

Following Peprah's dismissal, Kerala Blasters conceded two more goals, ultimately losing the match 4-2 to Mumbai City.

The sending-off left Kerala Blasters manager Mikael Stahre visibly frustrated, leading to a discussion between the two in the dressing room.

"We spoke about it in the locker room. He will never make this mistake again," Stahre said during his post-match press conference.

"It will be a learning point for him. He knows that he has put the team in trouble. We have already talked about it. Now it is about moving on."
