Mayambela dishing out shibobos in Cyprus

Bafana Bafana star Mihlali Mayambela has been terrorising some of his opponents with smooth shibobos in Cyprus as he continues to enjoy a brilliant season at Aris Limassol. Here's a look!

The Story

It seems that you can take a South African out of the country, but you can never take the Mzansi DNA out of them, no matter where they go.

This is the case for Mayambela, who has impressively been playing abroad for almost a decade now.

The 28-year-old has been in Cyprus since 2022, having had previous spells in Sweden, Portugal, and Israel.

While European football has increasingly been accused of becoming static and robotic due to the growing prevalence of strict tactics, Mayambela appears to have not lost the South African way of playing football and entertaining those watching.

In a video recently posted by his older brother, Mark Mayambela, the Aris star was taking no prisoners in one of his recent performances.

The 16-capped Bafana international can be seen taking the game to his opponents, with one such star being on the receiving end of two nutmegs, which South Africans refer to as a shibobo.

The Cape Town native continues to be a devastating threat from wide areas, as he is already on two goals and five assists in 19 league games this term.

While his stats may look modest, what he does on the pitch aesthetically is difficult to quantify. Nevertheless, one could argue that he certainly gives the Aris supporters value for their ticket money, as he often produces moments that leave onlookers on the edge of their seats.
