Mailula honoured with award in Casablanca

While all of the attention may be on Thembinkosi Lorch and his move to Morocco, Cassius Mailula has been flying the South African flag high for the past month.

The side competed in three Botola Pro 1 matches during the month of January, and emerged victorious from all of their encounters.

They are currently fourth on the league table with 33 points after 19 games, one point behind FAR Rabat, four behind RCA Zemamra in second, and 13 points behind leaders RSB Berkane who have only lost one encounter so far this season.

Mailula, meanwhile, has proved himself to be an important cog in the wheel steered by manager Rulani Mokwena, with the player being awarded the club's Player of the Month award for January.

He was in the running against Mohamed Rayhi, who won the award for December, and attacker Zouhair El Moutaraji. It is the South African, however, who dominated the votes.

In a poll the club put up on X, Mailula received 78.2% of the 1,537 votes on the platform, as opposed to Rayhi who received 18% and Moutarajji with 3.8% of the votes.

On Instagram, he dominated the votes too! The Toronto FC star who is currently on loan in Morocco received over 3 700 votes on that platform, while Rayhi getting just over 1 100 and Moutarajji on around 770.
