Fans mixed reaction to Mofokeng-Iniesta comparison

With ormer Bafana Bafana international Benson Mhlongo comparing Relebohile Mofokeng following his inclusion in Bafana Bafana's 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers preliminary squad, fans have given their verdict.

What's the story?

South Africa coach Hugo Broos announced the preliminary squad to take on Nigeria and Zimbabwe in next month's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and Mofokeng was included in the list of players.

Mhlongo, praised the Belgian tactician for his decision and compared the Pirates prospect to former Barcelona star Andres Iniesta.

Do the readers agree or disagree? Check it out here:

"Mofokeng can take our national team all the way to World Cup final. I believe in this boy. He's fearless," says Vuyo Mankayi.

In response to Mankayi, Ducks Ramatswana wrote: "Playing for Riveiro playing for Hugo is not same thing. Current soccer has formation, time to attack time to defend. If not mistaken, Riveiro plays more of total football with everyone running like a headless chicken to any direction. With more of Sundowns players Hugo's system of protecting the ball more, Mofokeng might fail to suit in the coach's system. Pirates does not make 5 touches before the ball is out for either goal or corner kick. Secondly.. Mofokeng is used more as a left winger but to me he seems to be a right-footed player because all the balls he gets on the left, he brings them back to his right foot before shooting. Where will Hugo's use him, right or left, who are his competitors on his left side ? Tau, Maseko Mayambela. Let's agree the boy is there to gain experience then after two years maybe he will be able to carry the burden on his shoulders."

"Hold your horses chief.. the young man must first start by winning the PSL title or CAF at least," says Karabo Karibiansoul.

"He's going to get a chance tö replace Maseko," says Dudu Skimy Maps.

"Why did he leave others out because we need more young, talented players in our national team," says Malwande Nagoh Mvundla.

"Broos should also consider the likes of Antonio Van Wyk, Shandre Campbell, Deano van Rooyen, Thabiso Sesane, Ime Okon, Ayanda Sishuba, Tashreeq Matthews, Asenele Velebayi, Boere Baartman, Samkelo Zwane. At least mix them with the so-called experienced players to give the young ones that experience, aromatic flavour in their game, you know! I mean that massive extra thing, you know," says Bra-Binladen Beya.

"What we need is that our youth teams be active," says Siyabonga Biyela.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns' incredibly hectic schedule that consists of matches in the DStv Premiership, the Nedbank Cup, the African Football League, the CAF Champions League, the MTN8, and the Telkom Knockout means that the side will have played a whopping 58 games by the time the current season comes to a close.

Check out what the fans think about it:

"That's like two seasons in one. And some people moan and groan when we add more quality players in the team," says Caz Vukeya.

"With the FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon, they could play more next season. I guess that's the price you have to pay for success," says Bongani Mgubela.

"Sundowns players are earning that their money. They deserve big bonuses. 60 games is not a child's play in a league where some teams plays about 32 games on average including cup competitions," says Mokone Waga Maake.

"Not withstanding the number of games they have played thus far in their journey, Sundowns still remains the only unbeaten team in our league. This is truly a remarkable team, it's high time we respect them," says Sthembiso Trevor Mkhasibe.

"This is the best team in the PSL, they complain about signing many players i think now they see the importance of having a big squad. Pirates can tell you what happened if you go into many competitions with a narrow squad. Sundowns is a good example to teams who want to compete for many years," says Para ElevenTimes Champion Magongo.

"And in all those games and travelling in the continent, they still remained unbeaten in the league," says Fila Mthembu Dlulane

"Meet the team that is doing well in the country but still cry for recognition. Kanti what happening," says Thabiso Eugene.

"Bayern leverkuzen played almost the same game and they not complaining with limited resources," says Tsikitsiki Thabz.

"But it is the reason they have 68 players," says Mpetjeng Makua.

"So many games yet they still managed to win the league with six games to go? Mxm these average PSL teams must up their game. This is not on. Only Stellies tried their best, big up to them," says Tha Biso.
