With Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi having recently been the victim of a brazen hijacking, here's a look at five PSL stars who have fallen victim to the same unfortunate ordeal in recent years.
Melusi Buthelezi
The Bucs have confirmed that their shot-stopper is now "safe and unscathed" after he was involved in a hijacking on the East Rand on Thursday evening. Police have also revealed that the former TS Galaxy star was with his friends in Thokoza when three unknown suspects approached them and robbed them of their valuables, including cellphones. It's said that the criminals then left the scene with Buthelezi in the vehicle but he was later set free unharmed. It is the second time that the 25-year-old has experienced a similar accident, as he was also hijacked and stabbed in Soweto in 2022.

Willard Katsande
Also in 2022, Kaizer Chiefs icon Katsande was left injured after a violent hijacking in Soweto. His vehicle was reportedly taken at Southgate Mall after returning from a trip in Zimbabwe. It was reported that his car was later recovered by a tracking company in Eldorado Park with significant damage. The retired defensive midfielder said he lost thousands worth of property including his cellphone and cash. A year earlier, Katsande was also assaulted during a road rage incident.
Sibusiso Mabiliso
The former AmaZulu star was reportedly tied and placed in the boot of his car in 2022 not long after he was released by Amakhosi. The full-back made it out unharmed and was said to have been forced to withdraw and transfer money to the four robbers who had kidnapped him.
Vincent Pule
Just days prior to Mabiliso's hijacking, Pule also went through the same experience, as his vehicle and other valuable property was taken during the incident, which also happened in Johannesburg. According to several reports, the suspects were later tracked down and arrested after they purchased alcohol using the Pirates winger's bank card that same day. His car was recovered in Riverlea in the south of Joburg.
Evans Rusike
In 2021, the former Moroka Swallow forward was the subject of a hijacking in front of the apartment complex he resided in Midrand. He was forced into the boot of his car by several suspects but was later dumped out of the car after the assaillants drove off with his vehicle. According to The Cover Up, the security guard who witnessed the incident told police the registration number of the suspects' vehicle and this would later lead to investigators linking the same alleged perpetrators to another case at the Johannesburg Central Police station.
