With former Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro seemingly now out of contract at his club in the United States, we take a closer look at how things have been going for the Colombian star.
The story
Castro said goodbye to South African football after parting ways with Amakhosi in July 2022. In March 2023, the marksman joined Greenville Triumph in the US third tier as a free agent.
Admittedly, things have gone relatively well for the now 35-year-old, as he has registered 21 goals and eight assists in 62 games to date.

However, according to Transfermarkt, his contract recently came to an end on 30 November 2024, although neither the player nor the club has formally announced his exit.
Castro was an important figure for Greenville this season, as he contributed nine goal involvements in the league to help his side to a fourth-place finish in USL League One. This guaranteed the side a play-off spot, but they lost in the semi-finals.
Notably, Greenville are partly owned by Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, as the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner acquired a stake in the club in October this year.
Since then, Greenville have announced a 10,000-seat multi-use sports and entertainment stadium, which is estimated to cost between $80 million and $100 million (R1.4 billion and R1.8 billion).
The future looks promising for Greenville, but it remains to be seen whether Castro will be a part of it.
His life off the pitch also seems to be flourishing as he remains a committed family man, often spotted in the comfort of his wife and two children.
Castro and his wife Stefy Burbano, who is a personal trainer, also seem to exercise with their children on some occasions, with the striker having been previously seen teaching his young son some soccer development skills.
