Let's take a closer look at what the readers had to say...

After Orlando Pirates secured their cup double with a Nedbank Cup adding to their MTN 8 success this season, the retired midfielder Teboho Mokoena insisted that the Buccaneers had a better season that Sundowns.

Sundowns clinched their sixth DStv Premiership crown in-a-row, finishing the campaign 16 points ahead of second-placed Pirates who secured CAF Champions League qualification in the process.

Mokoena feels that Pirates had the better domestic season because they secured two trophies, while Downs, who he credits for a good campaign, ran away with the league and missed out of a CAF Champions League triumph after a semi-final defeat to Wydad Casablanca.

Here's how the readers reacted to Mokoena's opinions in the "Mokoena: Pirates had a better season than Sundowns" story:

"Danko 'Tebza' Hope those loud mouths now understand why Rulani Mokoena and Teboho Mokoena won those accolades," says bhekilekhuleni6.

"Teko Modise won footballer of the season without winning the league with orlando pirates. ... There's no consistency from our coaches when it comes to choosing who walks away with the footballer of the season award," says mdonsi.

"By all means, yes Tebza, you're spot on," says Danito 4 Life.

"I disagree partly agree... Dawana did very well considering travelling, CAF, the league and were booted out in Cup Semi's, while other teams were well rested, not travelling. Playing 6 matches and lift a cup, not too fancy especially with scrapy wins andpenalty shootout with minnows," says Zebra to hell.

"Forgetting that at the beginning of the season, Sundowns were having press conferences claiming that they finally had a complete squad to challenge for all competitions, and also the fact that they won a treble with the same hectic schedule a season or two ago, and have been on the same schedule for the past 6 years.

"They have done much better in the previous seasons whilst having the same hectic schedule. So member swallow the PSL awards consolation and admit it was an average delivery the past 6 months for Sundowns," says Slow_Poison is response to the comment above.

"The league, Nedbank Cup and MTN 8 are all products of the PSL, there is no way that they can be deemed inferior in anyway. Why not nominate only Sundowns players if the other trophies are inferior?" says Barefoot Pirate.

"Utter nonsense. Is the Nedbank Cup plus the MTN 8 better than the DSTV Premiership title? We are being misled here," says butimabuya.

Pirates have been backed by club legend Shakes Gwabeni to lift more silverware this season after securing two cups during the 2022/23 campaign.

Gwabeni feels that there's no reason for Pirates to fail to win it all next season, despite Mamelodi Sundowns' league dominance over the last few years.

Here's how the readers reacted to Gwabeni in the "Pirates backed to collect even more silverware" story:

"Shame, poor legend," says thabot.boshielo.

"It wont be easy, winning the league will take more than just confidence. You need to have luck, form, variable tactics, consistency and hunger in order to win the Premiership otherwise, we will choke like we did in previous seasons.

"Buccaneers, let's rally behind our team and coach. We Are Pirates #ONCEALWAYS," says Eau De Parfum.

"Africa is a different ball game. If you look at Sundowns, they toy with us and they crash out easily in Africa. So it's not going to be easy," says @Normz.

"Easily? but Sundowns didn't really lose a game. Yes, they were knocked out on aggregate but Sundowns always get to the quarters, where other teams do it once in a while," responds makhause(2) to the comment above...
