'Our boys need to conquer the world'

With Mamelodi Sundowns star Ronwen Williams attending the esteemed Ballon d'Or ceremony, readers have reacted to the keeper making his mark on the world.

The South African was nominated for the prestigious Yashin Trophy award, and placed ninth in a list of nominees that includes some of the world's best.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez walked away with the prize, Williams will forever hold the record of being the first keeper to be nominated while representing an African club.

He can now be looked at as a symbol of South African excellence, and many KickOff readers appear to feel the same way.

Check out what they had to say:

"He made his mark to be nominated. It's enough. These awards are cooked for Europeans," says Valley Barnes.

"It's Like You Wanna Have A Drag Race Between A Fiat Uno A Lamborghini.. Williams Is Driving A Uno And Martinez Is Driving A Lamborghini And You Expect A Uno Driver To Win The Race.. It's Impossible. Either Way Congratulations To Williams For Being The First African/South African Goalkeeper To Be Nominated," says Obediencé B. Stepper.

"We're blessed as South Africa. Guys, let's appreciate that. It's not easy to make it in the top 10, but Williams did. Thanks for everything, boy. We are proud of you not only as South Africans, but Africa across," writes Khaya Klaas.

"Great achievement from Williams we as SAns appreciate your good work we are proud of you. From a Khosi fan," says Mzwandile Spokes Platyi.

"He is a blessing in our country," says Fikile Fikzozo.

"Is he totally good alone or it is because of Sundowns defence, just check that for me please," says Mzilikazi Khumalo.

"The dream should be Europe. I mean he has played against the likes of Neymar. Our boys need to stop enjoying their relaxed environments and conquer the world. He fits in nicely at France," says Pholoshi Suthu Morowane.

"That's true the nomination itself is an achievement on its own. He had been recognised on the world stage," says Andile Mehlonyosi.

"I wish him a European deal after this," says Thabang Tsitsi.
