Rivalry set aside as Orlando Pirates fan receives a Fortunate surprise!

After suffering an injury at a match, a PSL club has shown an Orlando Pirates fan some firm support by offering him a unique, up-close experience.

The two sides went head to head earlier this month in a DStv Premiership encounter, and it was the Citizens who came away with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal by Darwin Gonzalez in the 74th minute.

The encounter took place at the Cape Town Stadium and for one Buccaneer, it was a bad start to the year as the side he supports lost their first league game of 2025.

In addition, it was revealed by the Cape Town club that the fan fell victim to an injury which required surgery.

"This month, Orlando Pirates fan Msindisi Kombora suffered a severe injury during one of our games, requiring surgery," City wrote on social media.

However, what the Citizens did was also show the affected football enthusiast their sympathies with a heart-warming gesture involving a former Pirates star.

"To show our support, we surprised Msindisi with Cape Town City merchandise and spent a special afternoon with Fortune Makaringe."

The player himself took to the comment section to express his feelings after spending time with the supporter, while others also expressed their sympathies and congratulations.

"All love to the ghost. Once a Capetonian, Always a Citizen," Makaringe wrote.

"Humanity before anything. Bravo to the team and everyone involved," says @tshidi_wa_mokoena.

"Ohhh was it that serious? I was at the stadium and I saw how he got injured after felling whiles trying to score penalty during half-time.. He went out limping and we thought it was minor. Later on, the medics carried him. Speedy recovery, Buccaneer. And thanks City for showing him the love," says @kgopelo.
