Has this Sundowns loanee upgraded his VW Polo?

A Mamelodi Sundowns loanee seems to have upgraded his original VW Polo to a more modern model. Here's a look!

The story

Prior to the start of the 2023/24 campaign, Downs loanee Thabang Sibanyoni was spotted with a fresh set of wheels in a move that seemingly saw him trade in is older VW Polo for a newer version.

While we cannot confirm that it was indeed a trade-in, it is evident that the player now rolls around in the newer generation Polo - moving from the Mk5 Polo (2009-2014) to the Mk6 Polo (2017-2020).

Sibanyoni's Mk6 Polo

His new Mk6 is the first Polo generation that is not available with a 3-door body style, leaving the player with no choice but to appreciate a more spacious car. It is also easy to note that the current University of Pretoria star is a lover of the Volkswagen brand, and this is a sentiment that not only footballers but many South Africans also share, as VW is easily one of the most popular car-makers in the country.

The forward opted for a different paint this time, abandoning the black colour for a modern limestone grey look. Both versions are known for an excellent driving experience thanks to VW's specialty in performance and convenience. In comparison, the exterior of Sibanyoni's new Polo looks for more expressive than his former ride, as the new one boasts cool grille with fog lights that is aesthetically ideal for a sports car. The interior of the newer Mark6 is snazzy and compact and makes for a perfect connection between driver and machine.

Did you know?

According to Top Auto, the VW Polo generation has been produced in South African for over 26 years, with the Mk5 Polo having over 387 201 units built since then, while 422 603 units have been produced of the Mk6 since by December 2022.
