Amakhosi beginnings proves to be the root of success for ex-star

Given his time at Kaizer Chiefs, Siyabonga Ngezana has reaped the benefits of being an Amakhosi star, gaining accolades on as well as off the pitch.

The 26-year-old is a product of the Soweto giants' youth setup, but has not been bound the confines of geographical limitations evident in his decision to move to Romanian club FCSB in July last year.

He has been tearing it up overseas since making the big decision of moving to the European land, making 16 appearances for his new side in all competitions. He has not only contributed defensively, but also chipped in with a goal and an assist, amassing over 1 000 minutes of football for the SuperLiga side. Thus far, he has helped his team to first spot on the table, 11 points ahead of second-placed CFR Cluj.

Despite him being incredibly talent with a ball at his feet, one could perhaps argue that his success up to this point in his career would not have been possible without Chiefs. His success, however, does not only stop at the touchline. Instead, it stretches way beyond that.

Material treasures

One of the things he has been able to collect while travelling his uniquely-carved path is a car. More specifically, a BMW 3 Series. His, however, somehow looks more special than the ones you will find at any dealership. According to AutoTrader, even older models of this car do not come on the cheap. A model manufactured in the year 2010 would cost one over R120 000.

Off-pitch commitments

Another one of Ngezana's possessions is not necessarily materialistic. Perhaps if one would refer to the physical nature of the engagement ring he got for his fiance, then yes that argument could be made. However, it encompasses much more than that. The ring symbolises a commitment to something other than football which could end up being an advantage in the long run.

One usually insinuates that the idea of marriage would mean less parties and fooling around during the evenings when a player is not on the training field. That leads to less off-field distractions, helping the player improve his game by placing more focus on it. This could be a possibility for the 26-year-old as a nation keeps tabs on his footballing activities in Europe, hoping that he metamorphosises into a true footballing phenomenon.

A possession that will never be taken away

Aside from the loss of it, memories will stay with one until they find themselves them in the grave, and Ngezana has beautiful memories of his time at Amakhosi to cherish. The defender made his Cdebut make his debut in the Gold Black jersey against Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017, and described his decision to leave the club as "the toughest decision" he has made.

"Growing up supporting this team it as a dream come true to be the part of it. The experiences of highs and lows created great memories of brotherhood," he wrote in a social media post dedicated to the side and its supporters.

"I will never put into words the love and support I got from this family of Kaizer Chiefs and the fans since day one till this day of my departure."

The reward of being a winner

In such a short span of time, Ngezana has already won an impressive award at his new club. He was named named best player of Round One of the Romanian Cup in November last year, and his followers back home will be hoping that it is just the first of many more awards and accolades he achieves during his career.
