Record-holding SA coach explains Pitso influence

Egypt-based South African coach Shilene Booysen has now revealed the similarities she shares with Pitso Mosimane, as well as what her different from the former Al Ahly boss.

The former Banyana Banyana Performance analyst and technical advisor is currently serving as the head coach of North African outfit Wadi Degla Women in the Premier League.

While Mosimane became the first South African to manage Al Ahly, Booysen became the first person from the country to coach an Egyptian women's team.

Booysen explained more ways in which she and Mosimane are similar to one another, but also highlighted what separates them in terms of coaching styles.

"Every club has a philosophy that coaches are brought in based on, and Wadi Degla signed me because they have a philosophy about the way they want to play and my philosophy is similar to theirs," she said per Masrawy.

"I don't think Pitso and I have the same mentality when it comes to playing style, but I think we have the same philosophy when it comes to the desire to win and that's the mentality of all coaches.

"When coaches go to leagues and participate in competitions to achieve victory, this is no different for me.

"In my first season in Egypt with Wadi Degla, I found that there are many talented players, but no one knows them, so everything about me is different."

"It's about telling others or teaching others, and it all comes with its own challenges, and everyone expects you to do certain things, but for me the important thing is to make sure the players are happy in a healthy environment to grow in and I think I've done that, as we've created pathways for young players.

"The truth is that I do not know Pitso Mosimane personally and I do not know the way he coaches, but for me I do not repeat what he did and I do not follow what he is doing now.

"I am currently in a team that wanted something different."
