Zimbabwe's overseas recruits showcase dazzling fashion

With Zimbabwe boasting a strong European presence in their current squad, here's a look at some of their most stylish ballers ahead of their clash with Bafana Bafana.

The story

Zim have several stars representing them who were born outside of the country. Andy Rinomhota and Jordan Zemura were both born in England, while youngsters like Shane Maroodza, Joey Phuthi, and Tawanda Chirewa developed also abroad.

Moreover, many other Warriors also ply their trade overseas, including experienced stars like Teenage Hadebe and Marshall Munetsi.

Given the benefits of playing overseas, it does appear to come with a style factor, as many of the aforementioned players have shown an undeniable affinity for looking top-notch.

Zemura is one of them, as the Udinese star's stock has been steadily rising since breaking out of the Bournemouth academy in 2020. Now a resident in Italy, fashion could become even more of a thing for the left-back, as the country is also among the style capitals of the world.

Meanwhile, the strong presence of overseas-based players in the national has been a bit of a contentious topic in some cirles in Zimbabwe, with former interim coach Norman Mapeza having recently hit out at calls to play more foreign-based stars.

"I did my assessments and saw that some of these guys are not ready yet to play for the national team. They (the players) had come from the UK and some people were not happy they did not play. So, they look for stories," Mapeza said in March, according to Pindula.

"They have their agendas which have nothing to do with football. At the end of the day, this is Zimbabwean football, it's not about me. Maybe they have someone they want, who they can tell what to do and who to play. But that does not develop Zimbabwean football.

"I searched for information on all these players that came here. Apart from a few, they play mostly in the Under-21s.

"What I may recommend is that we start them at the Under-23 level and we develop them from there. I tell you we will have a good team in the future.

"But it was like I was the problem. But what's important is the development of Zimbabwean football more than the attacks on Mapeza or anyone.

"In life, we only plan and God decides. Even if people say we don't want Mapeza as national team coach, I don't have a problem with that.

"Whoever comes after me I will support him because what we want is Zimbabwean football."
