Cardoso cleared for his first test at Downs

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso will be on the bench when the side takes on Raja Club Athletic in a CAF Champions League match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

Cardoso is set to make his first official appearance on the bench for Sundowns after being unveiled as head coach during a press conference held at their Chloorkop base on Tuesday.

The well-travelled coach replaces Manqoba Mngqithi, who was let go during the week due to indifferent results since the season started.

Masandawana are still yet to win a match in the CAF Champions League group stage so far after drawing with Maniema Union of DR Congo and Moroccan outfit AS FAR in their last two games.

The Brazilians will need to beat Raja Club Athletic thy hope to reach the quarter-finals of the competition this season.

Sporting Director Flemming Berg has confirmed that Cardoso has received all the paperwork to allow him to sit on the bench come Sunday.

"We are already clear on the work permit and permission we need. Everything in terms of legal perspective (has been sorted)," said Berg during the press conference in Chloorkop.

Even though he refused to divulge the content and duration of Cardoso's contract, it is believed the Portuguese native has signed a three-year deal with an option to renew for a further two years.

Cardoso was officially introduced to the players at Chloorkop on Wednesday before beginning his new tenure at the Betway Premiership defending champions.
