Newly appointed Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has explained the reasons behind his decision to keep Steve Komphela as part of his technical team.
Sundowns took the local football fraternity by surprise on Tuesday when they announced the club had severed ties with Manqoba Mngqithi as head coach, who has been promptly replaced by Cardoso.
The Portuguese mentor was introduced in front of a sizeable contingent of media personnel at Chloorkop with his new technical team that comprises of Fabio Fernandes, Joao Araujo, and Petro Azevedo.

Cardoso has also retained Kennedy Mweene as goalkeeper coach and other backroom staff members, including Performance Analyst Goolam Valodia and Head of Physical Performance Mathias Zangenberg.
The new man in charge at The Brazilians says he is already looking forward to a good working relationship with all the staff members at the club.
"I feel happy with the staff I have. It was the common decision to keep Steve Komphela and Kennedy (Mweene) with us, I need to learn as quickly as possible. They can also help us with the quality of their work, by the experience they have, but also by the fact they have been working here, they can give us the insight we need," Cardoso told the media during his unveiling on Tuesday.
"There are a couple of factors that made them [to be] amongst us today. It was a decision we shared. It was not imposed, otherwise I could not say this in front of you. It was also my decision to keep them because I felt that could be key.
"Not only them, I will also work with all members of the Physical Performance department. I will work together with Mathias and Sindiso (Dube), who have already been in the club. I will work with all the analyst's departments, they will be kept to work with me.

"I will work with the medical departments, and I will work with all the people from the management, I will work with everybody. I am easy-going in relationships. I am demanding, but that doesn't mean I don't smile," he added.
Mngqithi has since been joined by Wendell Robinson and Romain Folz at the exit door in Chloorkop.
