Sundowns extend winless run in pre-season

Mamelodi Sundowns remain winless in pre-season after drawing 1-1 with Championship side Cardiff City on Tuesday afternoon.

The South African champions rolled out star names in Grant Kekana, Marcelo Allende, Thapelo Maseko, Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Peter Shalulile, with new Brazilian signing Arthur Sales on the bench.

Sundowns, who haven't experienced the greatest of joy in pre-season, were close to going behind when David Turnball played in Callum Robinson to go clear and find target but Jody February parried.

Not much in terms of the momentum swayed the way of Masandawana, who conceded more chances post the midway point where Robinson tossed and turn for a shot though went over.

Robinson posed more problems just ahead of the half-hour mark and cut inside to get a shot in only for February to repel him in grand style.

The Tshwane giants grew from the stuttering start and in the latter stages to the half overloaded the defensive third of Cardiff, but couldn't beat Jan Alnwick.

Cardiff needed no time to settle as the second half commenced but hit the breakthrough courtesy of a fine finish from Joel Colwill after Masandawana smothered their lines.

In line with the context of the clash, a number of fresh faces from either bench were thrown on the field of play in a way to keep the ship afloat.

Masandawana bounced back in the latter periods when a pass in the wide channels released a surging Tashreeq Matthews who needed no second invitation.

No further goals were presented following the final minutes before the end and all square it finished in the city of Westendorf.
