Sundowns take first step in foreign quota reshuffle

Mamelodi Sundowns have taken the first step towards settling matters relating to the order of their foreign quota this season.

The issue of who will be the five players registered under the foreign list has been of interest at Chloorkop considering the number of players that they have on their books.

Sundowns' most recent foreign signing has been Brazilian striker Arthur de Oliviera Sales.

This adds on to fellow Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Marcelo Allende (Chile), Matias Esquivel (Argentina), Erwin Saavedra (Bolivia), Abubeker Nasir (Ethiopia) and Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil.

The Tshwane giants have made the first move by loaning out Esquivel just six months after spending big money in bringing him in from Club Atletico Lanus.

Esquivel's transfer was reported to be in the region of USD 2,5 million (approx. R47 million).

However, he will now have to spend a season back home at Club Atletico Talleres in the Liga Profesional Argentina (top-tier league), where he will play against River Plate and Boca Juniors.

This means Sundowns will now have to move out one foreign player from the six that they now have to meet the allocation of five.

Nasir has been linked with a loan move following his return from injury.

Esquivel moves back home after scoring twice in 13 appearances during his time at Sundowns, where he had fellow Argentine Junior Mendieta, who has since moved to Greece.
