Kodisang: Why I chose Sundowns

Newly-signed Kobamelo Kodisang has explained why he chose to return to the PSL with DStv Premiership champion Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Sundowns confirmed at the start of July that Kodisang had penned a five-year deal with the Chloorkop-based outfit.

The 24-year-old comes with a big reputation, having been a key figure for previous side Moreirense in Portugal, where he contributed goals and provided five assists in his 35 appearances across all competitions last term.

In his last season, his form had somewhat dipped, with just one goal and three assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, and the switch to Sundowns might just inspire a much-needed lift.

The move means Kodisang will be making his first return to the PSL since 2019 when he played for Wits. He was previously on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs while with Braga, but the deal collapsed at the eleventh hour.

Speaking on the Sundowns' Pitchside Podcast, the speedy player explained why he chosen the Tshwane giants.

"I took the decision with my agent and we concluded that this is where I should be," Kodisang said.

"Unfortunately I don't see the games from my side [Portugal], but I was able to watch a few clubs and I like the style of play.

"Also, Sundowns are a big team and a team that I wanted to play for here at home. My parents are happy and they can't wait to see me in Yellow and Blue."

The Brazilians will be aiming to make it eight league titles on the trot when upcoming season, set to commence in August, ends in May 2025.
