‘Flemming might be up to something’

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Sello "Page" Mahlangu says Sporting Director Flemming Berg 'might be up to something' following the departure of Rulani Mokwena.

Mahlangu had accused Berg of trying to take the defending champions back to the days of European coaches being in charge of the team.

According to local reports, the relationship between Mokwena and Flemming is said to have strained to a point where the South African tactician was relieved of his duties at the club.

"This thing was starting to burn, you know. This Flemming guy... I think black excellence is starting to matter now," Mahlangu tells KickOff.

"Stats are saying most of the locals are being sidelined at Sundowns. This started with the scouting department in the development. It was phased out.

"Now they are reducing the number of local coaches in the club's structures. Bit by bit.

"We are not there, but we can tell from what Rulani has been saying that he's got so much anger. Flemming might have been starting to be above the coach, we don't know.

"Because we don't know their structure, it's difficult to tell who is signing players at Sundowns.

"If you look at the Sundowns history, no foreign coach has ever achieved what the local coaches have managed to. Flemming might be up to something.

"Coach Manqoba is there, and he was a senior to Rulani, so it might not affect the continuity. But anyway, as they usually say in football, we're not gonna miss you, it's you who is gonna miss us.

"There is a new trend of clubs announcing new players through social media platforms instead of inviting journalists to press conferences. Four players have been released at Sundowns, and nothing has been explained. There are squabbles within the club and nobody is telling the supporters anything.

"Clubs are communicating with people through statements now to avoid giving answers."
