Miguel Cardoso's takeover as the head coach at Mamelodi Sundowns this week has come with the heated re-ignition of the local versus foreign debate.
Cardoso has taken over from Manqoba Mngqithi with Sundowns top of the Betway Premiership standings, second in their CAF Champions League group and with the Nedbank Cup and FIFA Club World Cup to play for.

The Brazilians came stuck in the MTN8 semi-finals, before losing in the Carling Knockout final.
Cardoso is the first non-local coach at Sundowns in 12 years with the last having been the late Johan Neeskens.
Based on appointments made throughout the PSL era years, who has done a better job between the local and foreign coaches at Chloorkop, where circumstances are always different?
The first local coach in the PSL era years was the late Stanley 'Screamer' Tshabalala during the 1996/97 season as he led the club to a sixth-place position after taking over from Reinhard Fabisch five games into the league campaign.
Peter Koutroulis stood in once, while Neil Tovey had three caretaker spells before lifting the league with Miguel Gamondi.
Shane MacGregor stood in as well, while Khabo Zondo lasted eight games with no trophy won.
Gordon Igesund won the league, lost the Absa Cup, before Trott Moloto came to win the 2008 Nedbank Cup but then lost in the MTN8 final prior to coming out with nothing in another brief caretaker spell.
Pitso Mosimane then masterminded the revival which delivered five league titles, two Nedbank Cup trophies and Telkom Knockout Cup trophies and crucially the CAF Champions League.
Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena added the seven trophies won since Mosimane left.

Fabisch, Clemens Westerhof, Viktor Bondarenko, Djalma Cavalcante, Roger Feutmba, Oscar Fullone, Angel Cappa, Henri Michel, Hristo Stoichkov, Antonio Lopez, Ian Gorowa, and Neeskens all failed to deliver silverware as foreign coaches at Sundowns.
Worth noting is that the circumstances at the club were different for all compared to what has become of the Tshwane giants in the last decade.
Ted Dumitru delivered two league titles plus one BOB Save Superbowl, while he lost two Rothmans Cup finals to Kaizer Chiefs.
Paul Dolezar won the third league title in a row for Sundowns and added the Rothmans Cup but lost in the BOB Save Superbowl final.

The Frenchman had a second and third spell, which both came with nothing, while Dumitru also came back and lost in the CAF Champions League final and didn't win silverware in his last stint.
Gamondi partnered Tovey to deliver the 2005/06 league title.
