R90 million 'in the bag' for Downs with another R90 million to play for

Inaugural African Football League champions Mamelodi Sundowns will give their finance department further work this season as multiple million-rand figures keep reporting in their bank accounts.

Sundowns already have at least R90 million in prizemoney coming into their account for their efforts this season.

How so?

As winners of the AFL, Sundowns already have USD4 million (approx. R75 million) secured in the bag.

On the domestic scene, Sundowns got R800 000 for reaching the MTN8 final which they lost to Orlando Pirates on penalties.

For their participation in the Carling KnockOut Cup where they fell in the last 16, Sundowns will take home R550 000.

With eight wins from the opening quarter of the DStv Premiership, the Q-Innovation Quarter One worth R1,5 million is in the bag making it R2,85 million in the bank already on the local front.

Then in the Nedbank Cup, there will be a minimum of R350 000 for a last 32 exit if the prizemoney doesn't change while the least that comes from the DStv Premiership is R440 000.

This pushes the balance to R3,64 million secured so far from the domestic competitions.

In the Champions League where they are already through to the group stages, The Brazilians have USD700 000 (approx. R13,12 million) already guaranteed for reaching that stage.

This means a total of approximately R91,76 million will report into the Sundowns account as the minimum this season regardless of what happens from now onwards.

However, what is still at stake is R15 million for winning the DStv Premiership, R4,5 million for the other three Q-innovation quarters, R7,25 million in the Nedbank Cup, and the priority target of USD4 million (approx. R75 million) for winning the CAF Champions League.

Should Sundowns lift all the three remaining competitions and tick all the boxes in all the Q-innovation quarters then they will end up with approximately R179,6 million for the season.
