Still one more to go for Mokwena at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena will complete yet another standout achievement with victory in his next DStv Premiership outing.

Mokwena reached 30 league games in charge as the sole head coach on Wednesday with victory over AmaZulu.

It wasn't a win built on beauty but rather grit with Mokwena attributing the maximum points to their mentality.

With that result, it meant Mokwena remains unbeaten in the league after 30 games with 24 wins and six draws since taking over.

Most notable is the fact that only Cape Town Spurs are yet to be beaten by Sundowns since Mokwena took over in October 2022.

The bottom-placed Spurs will travel to Loftus to face Sundowns on December 13.

All other teams in the DStv Premiership have handed over three points to Mokwena's Sundowns at least once.

Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay have done so thrice while those that have been beaten twice are Kaizer Chiefs, Royal AM, SuperSport United, Chippa United, and Sekhukhune United.

Moroka Swallows, TS Galaxy, Golden Arrows, Polokwane City, Stellenbosch, and the two clubs relegated last season Maritzburg United and Marumo Gallants have all lined up once.

Sundowns already have 30 points this season after 10 wins in a row.

The Brazilians have the record title winning total of 71 points in sight and at the rate at which they are moving they will also move to the quickest dash to the title after lifting the title with seven games last season.

Sundowns' title winning numbers in the last decade have been 70, 65, 67, 59, 59, 60, 71, and 65 which gives an average of 64,5 points.

This means the champions will now need another 35 points from 20 games to end for their seventh league title in a row.

Another point worth highlighting is that the league winning numbers have been as low as 54 which is what SuperSport United needed in the 2007/08 season.
