Adams on to handsome rewards at Downs

Mamelodi Sundowns' incoming midfielder Jayden Adams will arrive at Chloorkop with plenty reason to smile after making the switch from Stellenbosch FC.

Adams has only ever played for Stellenbosch since making his first-team debut in August 2020.

With his midfield influence growing vastly at Stellies, it was obvious that there would be suitors for his services.

It was no surprise when Sundowns made the move at the end of last season but couldn't land their target right away due to what the Western Cape outfit were demanding as a transfer fee.

The Brazilians didn't give up and with the January window opening, they have ultimately landed their man.

Adams has agreed to a deal which will keep him at Chloorkop until June 2028 with an option to extend.

His earnings will improve to handsome figures from what he was earning at Stellies, while his ability to play several positions in midfield make him a utility option.

The 23-year-old's monthly net salary will be the standard six figures earned at Sundowns, where he will play in the CAF Champions League and at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Then there will be the signing-on fees, regular bonuses, and other perks that come with contracts at the 14-time PSL champions.

Adams' transfer has also come with a tasty transfer fee stretching above R20 million initially offered by Sundowns.

Stellenbosch will have the benefit of also getting Lesiba Nku in adding sauce to the deal.

Nku has only been at Chloorkop for 18 months after joining from Marumo Gallants.

With Miguel Cardoso having only joined a month ago, it means Adams' transfer came with the influence of Flemming Berg, the Sundowns Sporting Director, and his assistant Ryan Hunt.

Hunt was previously at Stellenbosch as a data and talent identification manager before heading the technical analysis department, and what he knows about Adams is beyond what is seen by the naked eye.

Another player that Hunt had close-up information on was Junior Mendieta as he arrived at Stellenbosch, before ultimately ending up at Sundowns.
