Davids set to make sensational managerial return

With John Maduka's fate at Maritzburg United now a mere formality it has been established that the club will bring back Fadlu Davids to take over.

Maduka's departure is now a case of legal ironing that will then pave way for his official exit making way for Davids following what has largely been a disappointing spell in charge.

Maritzburg have sunk to the bottom of the standings under Maduka and sit with the worst numbers in any column from games won, games lost, goals scored, and goals conceded which paints a picture of a team walking in the dark.

Maduka's reign in charge has left no impression on the authorities at the club who made the call to bring him in at the beginning of the season.

What appeared an informed decision to hire the former Malawi international at the beginning of the season has done all south and sour based on what has happened.

The results have been bad, and the dressing room confidence eroded with Maduka's approach to the game not helping the cause.

In need of solutions, the club has turned to the familiar figure in Davids.

The 41-year-old played for the club before serving as assistant after which he went on to end up as a head coach.

The task at hand for Davids will be to improve the club's fortunes right away when the league resumes at the end of next month.

Davids will return to the club after his stint as assistant to Josef Zinnbauer at Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow lasted just a couple of days after the German was sacked.

Last season he was an interim co-coach at Orlando Pirates.
