'He can play at the highest level' - Fadlu full of praise Maritzburg United star

Maritzburg United head coach Fadlu Davids believes midfielder Rowan Human has what it takes to play at the highest level.

Despite falling to a narrow defeat against Orlando Pirates in their previous outing, United coach Fadlu Davids was left impressed by his young squad and plenty of praise for midfielder Rowan Human.

Human was part of a youthful Bafana Bafana squad at the 2022 Cosafa Cup, but saw his game-time reduced at the start of this season.

The 22-year-old has featured 18 times for the Team of Choice so far but has completed an entire 90 minutes on one occasion during Maritzburg's first 10 games of the season.

On his return to the club, Davids has opted for a younger squad, offering opportunities for players like Human, Asanda Buthelezi, Bradley Cross and Karim Kimvuidi to stake their claim.

"He is a young player that has huge potential, Rowan Human," Davids declared.

"It's just about keeping him grounded and trying to get him to understand the skills he has and getting him to understand tactically, the positions when we have the ball, when to attack the space, when he has to pass.

"He's got huge potential but it's a step-by-step game to educate him. To help him understand his own strengths and weaknesses – to hide those weaknesses by being in certain positions, by defending in a certain way.

"So, step by step, he will grow. He has a huge potential, but he should remain grounded and take it game-by-game and absorb as much information as he can.

"I have no doubt that he can reach heights – that he can play at the highest level."

The Blue Army remains in position 15 on the DStv Premiership table but a win on Friday against SuperSport United could take them as high as 13.
