OFFICIAL: Maritzburg United sign former Orlando Pirates star

Maritzburg United have confirmed the signing of former Orlando Pirates defender Wayde Jooste on a free transfer.

Following his departure from Orlando Pirates at the end of last season, Jooste has reunited with former Buccaneers coach Fadlu Davids in Pietermaritzburg after being unveiled as a new signing by Maritzburg United on Thursday.

"Jooste Signs with the Team of Choice!" the club announced on its social media platforms. "Maritzburg United Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Wayde Jooste. A technically gifted footballer who plays with attacking flair and a high workrate."

The 31-year-old is the latest piece in the puzzle as the Team of Choice look to climb from the foot of the DStv Premiership standings during the second half of the season, having recently also announced an overhaul of the backroom staff.

Davids was appointed as head coach following John Maduka's departure and will be assisted by a backroom staff consisting of the ex-Pirates duo of Wayne Sandilands and Darian Wilken, who will serve as goalkeeper coach and assistant coach, respectively, physion Burger van der Merwe and analyst Mueez Kajee.

Jooste, meanwhile, brings a wealth of experience to the Harry Gwala Stadium, having spent the better part of the last decade in the top-flight with the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Highlands Park, and the Bucs.
